Durtnell was appointed to construct a new two-storey, fully   air conditioned, brick built steel frame building to house gymnasium and leisure facilities.

The exterior had bricks laid in English Garden Wall Bond with lime mortar to match the surrounding Lutyens designed brickwork. The gymnasium had a sprung floor on both levels and a cold cathode lighting system.
