» Eastbourne College: The Birley Centre
Durtnell are delighted to announce that the Governors of Eastbourne College have appointed Durtnell to create The Birley Centre, a new music block named after a former headmaster of the School.
The official ground-breaking ceremony was held on 16 April 2010 and attended by Mr and Mrs Michael Birley as guests of honour.
The Birley Centre will be a three-storey building comprising an auditorium, a fully-equipped recording studio along with external works including demolishing an extension to an existing building. Reinforced concrete will be used for the raft foundation, concrete frame and upper floors. There will also be sedum-covered flat roofs with a metal clad pitched roof over the main auditorium.
Underfloor heating, air conditioning, specialist foyer and auditorium lighting power, alarms and telecommunications installations, along with high specification finishes, will ensure a top-notch final product.
