On 27 April, Sevenoaks School hosted it’s Inaugural Concert at the newly-completed performing arts centre.
The Centre has two main parts. One contains the main auditorium, a concert hall which can accommodate an audience of up to 500 depending upon the configuration of the seating. The other contains the music and drama schools, with numerous teaching and practice rooms and new drama studio. Recital room and foyer, with views into Knole Park. The existing Sackville Theatre has also been improved and is linked to the new building.
Constructed with a concrete frame, the building’s internal finishes are a mixture of brick and fair-faced concrete with impressive single-span roof trusses made from Douglas Fir.
It has a highly sustainable, low energy design and combines high quality acoustic design with extensive daylighting; its innovative natural ventilation system uses borehole ground water for cooling.
