» The Vyne, Brewhouse, Hampshire

Durtnell was commissioned by the National Trust to create a new restaurant and servery for The Vyne, a Grade 1 listed property in Sherborne St John, Hampshire. The contract involved the refurbishment and alteration of a former brewhouse to create the new facilities. The new kitchen complex was created from a series of disused storage rooms and new offices and a staff rest room were provided.

New services were introduced to the building to enable modern catering equipment to be installed. A newly constructed steel and oak mezzanine floor above the main eating area provided additional space. As well as repairs to the external fabric, internal walls were given a thin limewash coating and all beams were treated with a mixture of beeswax and turpentine to feed and preserve the timber.
