» Portland Place, London W1
Durtnell was appointed for a design and construct contract comprising major refurbishment and remodelling of 76 Portland Place and the design and construction of new offices and a conference centre in an enclosed rear courtyard.
Five years later the Institute of Physics purchased the adjoining building (80 Portland Place) and appointed Durtnell for its external and internal refurbishment. This included complete internal redecoration with new joinery, floors and partitioning, renewal of mains services and cleaning and repair of the external stonework. A new auditorium was created and new catering facilities for both buildings were installed.
